The 51st AIO Conference and Annual General Assembly delivered an inspiring and engaging week in Addis Ababa, bringing together leaders and professionals from across the African insurance sector. With more than 1,900 delegates in attendance, the event reflected the continued growth and significance of this annual gathering.
The conference opened with a warm welcome from the AIO President and the local organising committee, recognising the remarkable teamwork that made this year’s event possible. The agenda featured thought-provoking sessions addressing some of the continent’s most pressing challenges, including Africa’s debt landscape, sustainability in insurance, and building resilience within the sector. Delegates had the opportunity to engage with a distinguished line-up of speakers and panelists who shared insights on how the industry can adapt and thrive amidst evolving economic realities.
Beyond the formal sessions, the conference also celebrated excellence and leadership within the sector. The 10th edition of the Africa Re Insurance Awards was a highlight, honouring outstanding contributions across multiple categories. This spirit of recognition continued with the graduation of the first cohort of the AIO Leadership Programme, a key milestone in the organisation’s commitment to developing the next generation of industry leaders.
The social events provided a vibrant platform for delegates to connect, network, and experience Ethiopian hospitality. The opening cocktail evening created a lively atmosphere where industry colleagues, old and new, shared ideas and strengthened relationships.
A notable moment of the conference was the leadership transition, as outgoing AIO President Patty Karuaihe-Martin formally handed over the role to Yared Mola. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the AIO, building on the strong foundation laid during Karuaihe-Martin’s tenure, which saw significant progress in leadership development, regional collaboration, and sector visibility.
The 51st AIO Conference and AGM once again demonstrated the sector’s commitment to driving growth, resilience, and meaningful impact across the continent. As the conversations and connections continue, the future of African insurance looks poised for continued transformation and progress.
